Mods are supposed to be modular - turn on or off at will. In light of that, I've created a variety of sideboxes that can be easily added in.
Secure Shopping & Auto Payment Methods
I created a secure sidebox many years ago that automatically shows which payment methods are available. With a move to less sideboxes, I have created single creditcard boxes that can be displayed either up top between the 2 new dropdowns or in the footer.
Shopping Cart in Header
Long ago I repackaged the shopping cart in the header. Best way to easily see what's in the cart - a feature I can't live without while shopping. I've recently overlaid the cart image with the item numbers. 
Categories Sidebox & Header Dropdown
Though the best use of the new categories box is in that dropdown in the header, that same functionality is available as a normal categories sidebox. The difference is not just visual but functional. The default sidebox only shows the sub categories once the category is clicked on. This sidebox is based on the categories_css box which is an old style flyout menu that shows the sub categories and sub sub categories without any clicks. Navigation Dropdown
The nav dropdown has the Home link built in and displays at a minimum the ezpage links from the header. If you also have ezpages links in the sidebox, that can be shown in this mobilized menu listed as Important Links. And, you can choose to show the information box link as well.
Google Programmable Search
Click on the Site & Image Search link in the header. This expansion of the site search is just what Zen Cart needs! Use your google account to set it up, paste in the code in admin and it works!
Social Media Header and Sidebox Mods
Just dump your social media links in admin, turn on either the header or sidebox and the emblems appear.

You have a choice of a sidebox or a simple field in the header to sign up your clients.
